Privacy Policy

Simon Hočevar built the Rain Radar app as an ad-supported app with an optional one-time Premium purchase. This SERVICE is provided by Simon Hočevar and is intended for use as is. Rain Radar is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Android (including home-screen widgets and in-car use), and a live radar map is also available on this website.

This page informs visitors about my policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information for anyone who decides to use my Service.

If you choose to use my Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The Personal Information that I collect is used for providing and improving the Service. I will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms & Conditions, unless otherwise defined here.

Information collection and use

For a better experience while using our Service, I may require you to provide certain information, including but not limited to:

  • Location — used to center the radar map on you, show local forecasts, and power the short-range rain prediction. Your precise location is processed on your device and sent to our weather services only to fetch data for your area.
  • Push notification token — if you enable rain, storm, or severe weather alerts, a device push token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) is stored so alerts can be delivered to your device.
  • Anonymous account identifier — the app signs in anonymously (Firebase Authentication) to access radar data and to associate any weather photos you choose to share. No name, email, or password is required.
  • Weather photos you share — if you use the community photo layer, the photo you submit, together with the map location and time it was taken, is uploaded to our servers and shown publicly to other users on the map. Sharing photos is entirely optional and governed by our User Generated Content Policy.

Location and background location

If you have background location and notifications for weather alerts turned on, the Rain Radar app will, from time to time, tell us your device's location (including GPS) even when you are not directly interacting with the application. This is used solely to check whether precipitation or storms are approaching your position so an alert can be sent. You can restrict access to your location at any time in your device's system settings, and background location is only used when you have explicitly granted the "Allow all the time" (Android) or "Always" (iOS) permission.

Widgets, the Apple Watch app, and in-car views use the same location permission to show radar and forecasts for where you are.

Advertising

The free version of the app shows ads served by Google AdMob and its mediation partners. These services may collect and use your device's advertising identifier and related information to serve and measure ads. On iOS, ad tracking is only used if you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt; on Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in system settings. Purchasing Premium removes ads from the app entirely.

Purchases

Premium is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google — I never receive or store your payment card details. Your purchase can be restored on a new device through the same store account.

Log data

I want to inform you that whenever you use my Service, in the case of an error in the app I collect data and information (through third-party products) on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol ("IP") address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing my Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics. Crash reports and performance data are collected through Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring to help keep the app fast and stable.

Website live map

The live radar map on this website can, with your browser's permission, use your device location to center the map on you. If you decline, an approximate country-level position may be derived from your IP address instead. This location is used only to position the map and is not stored by me.

Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device's internal memory.

This Service does not use these "cookies" explicitly. However, the app may use third-party code and libraries that use "cookies" to collect information and improve their services. You have the option to either accept or refuse these cookies and know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse our cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of this Service.

Service providers

I may employ third-party companies and individuals for the following reasons:

  • To facilitate our Service;
  • To provide the Service on our behalf;
  • To perform Service-related services; or
  • To assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

I want to inform users of this Service that these third parties have access to your Personal Information. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

Data retention and deletion

Settings and preferences are stored locally on your device and are removed when you uninstall the app. Weather photos you share remain visible on the map until they expire or are removed. If you would like a photo you submitted — or any other data associated with your anonymous account — deleted, contact me at info@webfreak.si and I will remove it.

Security

I value your trust in providing us your Personal Information, thus we are striving to use commercially acceptable means of protecting it. But remember that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and reliable, and I cannot guarantee its absolute security.

This Service may contain links to other sites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by me. Therefore, I strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. I have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Children's privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. I do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. In the case I discover that a child under 13 has provided me with personal information, I immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact me so that I will be able to take the necessary actions.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

I may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
